Purpose in the Storm
June 21, 2026 André K. Dugger
“So take courage, men, because I believe God that it will be just the way it was told to me.”
Acts 27:25 (CSB)
Today we reflect on Malta, a place marked by shipwreck; but also, by divine purpose. Paul did not plan to arrive here. He came as a prisoner, caught in a violent storm that raged for days. From a human perspective, it looked like disaster. But from God’s perspective, it was direction.
In the middle of chaos, Paul stood with unwavering faith. He did not deny the storm; he declared God’s promise in the storm. “Take courage,” he said, not because the winds had stopped, but because God had spoken.
When the ship finally broke apart, every single person survived; just as God promised. But the story didn’t end there. On the shores of Malta, Paul healed the sick, demonstrated God’s power, and left behind a testimony that would impact generations.
How often do we view our storms as interruptions instead of assignments? The very situation we are asking God to remove may be the place He intends to use us the most.
Storms reveal what we believe. They strip away control and expose our trust. And sometimes, they carry us exactly where God wants us to be.
If you are in a storm right now, take courage. God has not lost control. What feels like a detour may actually be divine positioning.
Reflection Question: How might God be using a current or past storm in your life to position you for His purpose?
Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father, Thank You that You are sovereign even in the storms of my life. Help me to trust Your promises when circumstances feel overwhelming. Give me courage to stand firm in faith, knowing You are working all things for Your purpose. Use every storm to shape me and to bless others through me. In Jesus name, Amen.
